DDE Unit 4 Ballet

Weekly Friday morning lessons with acclaimed ISTD examiner and lecturer Helen Steggles, to improve and enhance, not only your understanding of teaching ballet, but also your own technique and artistry.

Throughout the course, you will learn the DDE syllabus requirements that include the Imperial Ballet syllabus detail, best practice teaching techniques and how to work with pianists. You will gain an appreciation of a large variety of musical styles to enhance your choreography and artistic skills.

Each session will consist of an Intermediate Ballet lesson followed by a DDE session.

Feedback will be given regularly, as to your own personal journey towards achieving an appropriate exam standard.

Lessons take place at Leonard Dance Academy studios, 39 Websters way, Rayleigh, Essex.

With close links to train and bus services & a direct link to both London Stansted & Southend Airports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have Ballet experience?

Yes. This teaching qualification requires attendees to have considerable experience in the Ballet genre. Fundamental Ballet principles will be expected to be known and applied.

Do I have to have passed a set standard in Ballet?

No, but an Intermediate Dance examination pass, is required before you can be entered for the DDE Examination. You should ideally be working at an Advanced 1 / 2 standard when approaching DDE work. You do not have to have passed Intermediate exam before starting the course, but you need to have passed it before you can take the DDE exam.

Are other Ballet exam board passes acceptable?

Yes. Intermediate passes with the following exam boards are acceptable : ISTD, RAD, BBO, BTDA & IDTA.

Do I have to attend the Intermediate Ballet Class each week?

Yes. Students own technical and artistic ability needs to be of the highest calibre, so regular attendance of the Intermediate lesson is compulsory. Irrespective of whether the examination has been passed or not.

What does the tuition fee cover?

The DDE Ballet tuition fee is based on regular weekly lessons (excluding public & Summer holidays) over 1 year. Live pianists will be provided at regular intervals throughout the course. Feedback will be provided, as to whether gaining the relevant standard to take the exam is possible, in that time frame. If additional time beyond the year is required, students will be invoiced termly. Feedback will indicate how much additional tuition will be required.

How do I pay?

An invoice for the Tuition fee will be provided for you to pay via Bank Transfer. If you wish to pay via credit / debit card please indicate this in your enquiry.

Are there any other costs involved?

For DDE Unit 4 Ballet - you will need to pay the ISTD examination fee, once your Tutor has agreed that you are nearing or have reached the required standard. This will typically be required 3 months prior to taking the examination.
